My name is Mardoqueu Silva, I am from Brazil and I have been doing hair ever since I can remember. At the age of 12 I was already cutting my friends and family’s hair. When I was 14 my grandmother bought me my first pair of cutting shears which I still treasure to this day. At 17 I moved to the United States and started working at a small salon in the mission district of San Francisco. Two years later I advanced to one of the top salons in San Francisco’s Union Square, where I personally assisted celebrity stylist Dimitri. Next, to further my education, I worked at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon. I had lots of fun participating in magazine shoots and make overs. I also worked at Ecco Salon, Salon on Sutter, Maiden Lane Salon, Richard of Burlingame.

For 3 1/2years I worked as an educator teaching the Toni & Guy hair cutting Technique to Stilo Salon in Redwood Shores. I did many platform work and helped to train most of their current stylist at the new location in San Mateo. I love to teach and share my skills with clients and colleagues.

I am currently working at Tangles Hair Studio (www.tanglesintracy.com) in Tracy, CA. And at Neo Salon in Burlingame CA.(www.neo-salon.com) In recent years I have attended several weeks of hands on courses about hair cutting , and hair coloring , color correction. I am always looking for improved techniques to pass onto my clients. My greatest passion in the hair industry is the art of Japanese Thermal Reconditioning. Eight years ago I attended a seminar in Beverly Hills CA, where I was trained and certified by the MILBON LISIO Thermal Reconditioning experts from Japan. I have ever since successfully performed hundreds of services and Mastered the technique in great depth, including very important details that are not taught in seminars but only acquired by years of experience. This is my personal secret for transforming dry, dull, unwanted curls, into beautiful, straight, healthy, shiny hair.

WHY I LOVE THERMAL HAIR STRAIGHTNING:
Of course the amazing transformation from curly, frizzy and damaged hair into Silky, healthy, shiny and frizzy less straight hair. Also I love to make my clients happy, the big smiles on their faces, the many happy tears that were shed along the way. I find it fascinating and extremely rewarding being able to help them with their hair and above all touch their lives.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HAIR THAT HAS BEEN THERMALLY RECONDITIONED:
Thermal reconditioning unlike all the other systems does not give your hair the appearance of hair that’s been straightened by force.( you know the kind that you see around that when the person turn their head the hair goes with it and it looks stiff and over processed.) because it does not force the hair to be straightened by means of swelling of the cuticles ; instead it gently neutralizes the hydrogen bonds( natural curls or frizz) to neutral state, allowing the hair to be recreated giving the person the appearance, and the feel of naturally born straight hair. (those who don’t know you would never guess.) If you ever heard or read anything negative such as :it didn’t take on my hair. It caused hair breakage or dryness etc…It’s certainly because people in order to save clients a couple bucks, shamefully used cheap imitations, or the stylist simply doesn’t know what he’s doing. You will want to tell your stylist about any color, perms, previous relaxers or other chemical services you have had done or performed in the past. It is important to tell your stylist, even if you can not still see the effect of the previous service or think it has grown out. You will also want to advise your stylist of any scalp conditions, irritations, abrasions and/or allergies.

WHAT IS THE BEST THERMAL RECONDITIONING PRODUCT IN THE MARKET TODAY ?
Instead of attacking some of our national brands I will make the long story short by simply stating that , there are only two systems that work ; LISCIO and YUKO. I chose LISCIO over YUKO because it is milder on the hair and smell a whole lot better too!

IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU SHOULD YOU ASK YOUR STYLIST BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE THERMAL STRAIGHTNING?
A. How long he or she been doing it. REASON: when I am giving classes on thermal straightening one of the questions that are most frequently asked is: what part of the procedure is the most important? I usually will answer them by saying : Everything is the most important part, if you get it right you’ll do a good job!!! Every single step is fundamental in getting it perfect!!
B. Does he or she enjoy doing it ? REASON: Thermal reconditioning the proper way can be tedious and very tiring, the ironing part alone can take up to three and a half hours, so unless the stylist really enjoys doing it he will not finish it the same way he started causing inconsistent results.
C. How long does it take to have the whole procedure done ? REASON: thermal reconditioning is time consuming, it should take an experienced person at least five hours minimum! Anything faster than that be very skeptical.
D. Does stylist have an assistant that helps them with the iron technique to help speed up the process ?( try to ask this in a positive way). REASON: As good and helpful as some assistants are they do not have the experience and the knowledge necessary ,and many times hair can look different in one side.

MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
CAN I HAVE MY HAIR THERMAL RECONDITIONED IF MY HAIR HAS BEEN COLORED, OR HIGHLIGHTED OR TREATED BY ANY OTHER TYPE OF STRAIGHTNER, SUCH AS SODIUM HYDROXIDE OR THIO (ANTI-CUR) PERMS?

If your hair has only one single process color, the answer is always positive. If you have multi-dimensional color or highlights you may almost always have the procedure done, except in some cases when the hair has been extremely damaged or over processed. If your hair has been permed or relaxed or anti-curled you may almost always have the procedure done ,except in some cases when the hair has been extremely damaged or over processed.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO HAVE MY HAIR RE -TOUCHED?
Six to eighteen months depending on the hair length, eight to eleven months as an average.

WHAT TIME OF MAINTENANCE WILL I HAVE TO DO AT HOME?
The Liscio system will leave your hair smooth, and silky straight with little styling required. However, I do recommend blow drying the hair using a natural bristle brush and a downward drying motion to close the cuticle, and retain moisture in the hair.

IS THE COST LESS FOR A RE-TOUCH APPLICATION?
Not usually as it takes the same amount of time or sometimes longer. As previously processed hair needs to be protected. All hair must still be ironed and neutralized.

CAN I PUT MY HAIR IN A PONY TAIL?
At least 72 hours after the Liscio service, do not put clips, pins, rubber bands, ponytails, or barrettes in the hair. Do not tuck hair behind the ears as well.

HOW LONG DO I WAIT TO SHAMPOO?
Do not shampoo for 48-72 hours after the Liscio service.
